i have a mac book pro (2014) version 10.11.6 i would like to use microsoft word but need version 10.13 and have no updates available
can i do this?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina through the links provided; they're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list. Alternatively, switch to a product such as LibreOffice.

the 10.13 you are seeking is High Sierra.
thank you i found out thats what its called but can i upgrade to that on my current version of 10.11.6, when i click on upgrades it says there isn't any

You want to UPGRADE, not just update what you have.
The way you do that is like a purchase of a new version of MacOS. Luckily, on sale for $0. Follow Niel's link that says High Sierra in blue above.
