I am receiving error messages of malicious content that will damage my computer

I am receiving error messages of malicious content that will damage my computer then directs me to move certain applications to trash (these applications date back to 2017) when I try to print, even items that I have printed before without problems. I am using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 and a Hewlett Packard printer connected to WiFi. How do I override this message? The item is from an e-mail that I know is safe.

Welcome, ouncer, to Apple Support Communities!

You are receiving messages (popup dialogue boxes? Not email, or dialogue boxes from webpages!?!) that certain software (at least including HP printer software) may be malicious software that may damage your Mac.

I don’t know about whatever email you have received, so I cannot vouch for their advice.

As far as the HO printer software, HP mistakenly revoked some of their software signing certificates, so your macOS is simply flagging that such software is unsigned.

The fix is to install the updated printer software.

Do you see an HP printer software update in your Mac’s software updates System Preference?

If so, install it.

(The last update directly from HP, that I am aware of, had a new issue. So, the one through Apple should be the safest bet.)

If you simply drag software to the Trash, that you are not certain, yourself, are problems, then you run the risk of creating greater problems.

As for other software, perhaps you can give us more details.
