I just got a new iPhone 12 and switched from Verizon to ATT. I was getting texts from android users, but now I don’t receive any texts, just gifs.
I reset the network settings, we both turned off wifi and tried to text through cellular - nothing.
Any thoughts?
Make sure your cellular plan includes SMS and that it is provision correctly.
Also check Send as SMS and MMS Messaging are enabled on your iPhone's
Settings > Messages > here.
If no joy, reboot your iPhone.
Last, talk to your provider about SMS/MMS plans

I should also note that I can receive phone calls form android users and none of these users are on my block caller list. They get my texts, I just don’t get theirs.
Are you using the same phone number?
In any case SMS/MMS is a carrier feature.

Yes - same phone number. Sounds like I need to discuss with my carrier.
Yes, make sure they can send you a confirmation using SMS/MMS.
And you can send them a SMS for testing.
