FCPX 10.4.10 on Catalina 10.5.7 extremly slow

Hi,

since I updated to FCPX 10.4.10 ist ist so slow.

I use RED 8K RAW r3d files from my RED Helium. And converted them into proxies. No matter if I'm in the Proxy Timeline or the original timeline, my Mac Pro (Late 2013, 3,5 Ghz 6-CoreXenon E5, 32GB Ram, AMD Fire Pro D700 6GB) is very slow. It's a 1080p 25p Timeline. I use some plugins, like color finale Pro and FilmConvert Nitrate (latest versions).

I'm cutting since 7 Years on that machine and it worked always well. I'm also using this Plugins with RED 8K files since 2 years. Never had an issue.

I also deleted the preferences when starting final cut.

It is still slow. A 2 minute 1080p timeline takes about 40 min to render.

Before it was about 10 min. or even less.

And FCPX is always freezing or takes forever to do some adjustment.

HEEEEELP.

Unfortunately it is not nearly as simple.

To uninstall, you have to follow their instructions.

And to make matters (a lot) worse, uninstalling does not undo whatever damage this has already caused to your system.

I'd say be prepared to do a clean install, but if you are unconvinced (and you are not alone - so many times I've read the "oh, but I have had this for years and never caused a problem" phrase...), here is something simpler:

Install a fresh version of Catalina on a separate drive (preferably an SSD, as HD are so slow, but even an HD will do).

See how a clean system works.

The mac has made upgrading so easy over the times that many people upgrade continuously for years, system over system and onto different macs even. This has the propensity to accumulate stuff that after a while is not so compatible anymore.

So even if there is no problem, it is usually best to do a clean install, at least when upgrading to a new OS (like from Mojave to Catalina, for example). This gets rid of old stuff and keeps a nimble system working fine. Migrating user accounts is fine, so documents, photos, music, etc are all preserved. Just don't other stuff (applications, settings, other files...).
