Lost notes and highlights in iBooks PDF file

Hi

i just finished a weeklong course. Got home and my iPad decided to update to the latest iOS version 14.2

now the PDF book I was highlighting and making notes in for the whole week has lost all notes and highlights.

please help? Is there a way to find my notes and highlights? They where all done with the Apple Pencil, so hand drawn and written notes

I tried all that before asking on this forum. I was using a 220 page pdf and had spent a week in class making handwritten notes and highlighting using my Apple Pencil (so not typed notes). They all dissapeared after the update. I dod not havea backup.

Is there a location where the database files for notes/annotations/highlights is stored in the file system.

I'm desperate. The course cost me $6600 and I've lost all notes. The iPad updated itself overnight.

Hi Shsdarwin,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand your highlights are missing after an iOS update.

Do you use any other devices to view your books and PDF documents? If so, do your changes appear on any other device? Do you have a backup that might include the changes you made? If needed, you can use Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to help you find previously created backups.

If you haven't already, Restart your iPad, then check for the notes and highlights again.

Best of luck!
