Mac finder fails to find files named with hyphen (MacOS Catalina 10.15.7)

I have been scanning years of photos in the following manner ...

Finder

Pictures

Folder (one for each year)

Naming with hyphens (1993-05-04-Nick-Communion-01.jpg)

However, when I search "this mac" or within a particular folder for "communion," those files do not show up. Do I need to rename all my files? (MacOS Catalina 10.15.7)

Thank you in advance for help.

P.S. For a multitude of reasons, I hate Mac Photos, so let's avoid that up front ;)

I can verify that on Catalina 10.15.7 (19H15), that the Finder/Spotlight search does not find filenames constructed as:

1993-05-04-Nick-Communion-01.jpg

but does immediately find this naming revision, using name:communion:

1993-05-04_Nick_Communion_01.jpg

That first name format is the first time that I have no been able to find any random filename on my Mac with Spotlight. I have no explanation for an all hyphen filename cloaking itself from the Spotlight.

Renaming would be tricky due to not wanting to change the ISO 8601 date format, but only the other hyphens. I figured this out in the Zsh shell this afternoon, but I paid for it in time.

Thank you so much for your time - - sorry it took me so long to come back and review; can you tell I work on this project on weekends?

So ultimately, I will have to rename all my files with an underscore or some other separator? What is the suggested method? I don't understand what you mean by the ISO 8601 date format.

The end game is that all the photos are sorted by date and I will eventually send them - - by year - - to print to a "Shutterfly" type bound book per year. My kids are all adults and are all interested in having the pictures of their lifetimes in volumes like that, as I am. It is just a LOT of work.
