two iphones, one apple id, same icloud account

If I have two iphones that share the same apple id, can I separate the icloud backups, photos, etc?

Backups, yes, Photos, no. If they are not being used by the same person they should have different Apple IDs.

For backups go to Settings/General/About and edit the names of the phones so you can distinguish the backups.

Go to Settings/[your name] and scroll to the bottom, and tap Sign Out. When asked choose to keep all of your content. Then create a new Apple ID—>How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support. Next, on the device with the original Apple ID create a Family Sharing account—>What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support and add the new account as a “family” member. This will allow the new ID to access all purchases made with the old Apple ID.

Hi Lawrence, appreciate your help!

Just want to confirm I understand all the steps in changing the Apple ID before I get started. As mentioned earlier, I have two phones that share the same Apple ID. One is backed up to iCloud and the other is backed up with iTunes on my pc. The phone that is backed up on my pc, is the one I want to change Apple ID on and begin using iCloud. Are the following steps correct?

1- sign out of current apple ID on phone that will get new Apple ID.

2- when asked, choose to keep all my content.

3- create new Apple ID (I already created this using the web).

4- sign in with new Apple ID.

5- setup family sharing on the other phone that has original Apple ID.

Anything else I should do, or steps I should change?

Thank you again,
