iPhone 12 charging

Hi. How long should iPhone 12 be plugged in after purchase for first time charging?

also, can the phone be charged even if the battery is slightly higher than 50% since overnight charging is recommended ?

You can plug the phone in to charge anytime. Lithium iON batteries don't have memory issues like old batteries from years ago. When you get your new phone it will likely have plenty of charge on the battery to get you up and running. The best advice I can offer is to NEVER let the phone run lower than 20% or EVER to zero. What I do and most others here do, is charge the phone at night while we sleep, connected to Wifi and it not only is ready for a full days use when you get up in the morning, but it will back up your phone nightly to the cloud. You cannot overcharge the battery in iPhone.
