I posted here exactly because it is a user forum. The definition of community is support and I posted with the hope that another user would share their experience and provide me with some insight. Is sharing experience and insight not the whole point of the Apple Community?
you could maybe try cleaning off the home button and then re-teaching the finger you normally use (deleting the old one of course). Do some expirimenting to see if he can still access it. If he can, try a different finger. so on and so forth.
If he continues to have access, then you could turn off the ability to use Touch ID for the App Store in Settings > Touch ID & Passcode.
no biometric feature is perfect on these devices. Apple's own documentation puts the statistics at 1 in 50000 can defeat it with a single enrolled finger (so if you have more fingers enrolled, that number comes down).
It seems that you and your son must fall into this slim situation. I personally have yet to see a post like yours on these forums. I actually see more inquiries about Face ID working for family members/twins.. and Face ID is supposed to be even more secure.
I’m shocked none of you were even concerned about the biometric failure detail? Have you seen this before?
This is a user to user forum and Apple is not here. There is nothing we can do for this. See if this helps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084
we are here for technical support.. if you've already attempted to get a refund and Apple has denied it.. there is nothing anyone here in the support community can do for you
The primary purpose of this forum is for iPhone technical help. While we try to resolve other issues, sometimes there are things beyond our control.
I have not heard much about Touch ID working for multiple people.. is it possible that your son just knows your iPhone passcode?
No. The purchase prompts for ID or thumb and I saw him use his thumb immediately after it happened because I was floored.
I did do that. The issue was the IPad thumbprint is a security option that should function for just that purpose- security.
