No space for music on Apple Watch

I have 17gb of free space on my Apple Watch, but it’s telling me that my “storage allocated to media” is full. Now I can’t add anymore songs to my Apple Watch even though I have ample space.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Apple Watch Storage Issues For a while now, but specifically ever since updating to watchOS 8 (now 8.1), my Apple Watch has been having storage issues. I noticed none of my music was downloaded so I checked the Watch app to find that my “media storage was full”… This was new to me, I have over 8GB free so why wouldn’t I be able to use that? Besides that, I didn’t even have any media on the Watch in the first place! I got frustrated and gave up. Fast forward a couple months to today. I want music on my watch. The out of media storage banner was there and randomly disappeared a couple minutes ago, however, my storage says 7GB used, and after counting my apps, they use a grand total of 537MB combined, and Music is taking over 200MB for some reason, even though there is no music downloaded? I know watchOS takes up space, but according to the chart, it’s not the majority of what is supposedly “used”. Maybe by some miracle my music will download now—time will tell (will check in the morning)—but what’s with all this “used” storage that I’m clearly not using and why the “media storage limit” (which seems to have bugs)?

Out of Media Storage - When I am not... I went to go for a run today with my Apple Watch to play music. Instead of playing, the watch zipped through all the songs in my playlist on the display. Apparently my music was removed from my watch and when I checked the Watch App on my iPhone I get an "Out of Media Storage Space." However, I have over 25GB still free and only 642 MB of which is Music App documents & data (see attached screenshots). I tried deleting the selected playlists from the watch app and putting them back, erasing and putting back all the music on my iPhone, and restarting both the watch and iPhone. The music was on the watch 5 days ago when I ran, I'm not sure why the watch suddenly decided that it was full and dumped it all. As , I have spent far too much time trying to fix an Apple glitch. Can anyone help?

I was just informed by Apple that they put storage limitations on all Apple Watches. According to them, media storage for Apple Watch is only 8Gb.

So, even if you have ample storage, it wouldn't matter. Music, podcasts and audiobooks have a total storage limitation of 8Gb. Not sure why lol.

To check the capacity directly on your Apple Watch, go to Settings > General > Usage. The Storage section displays the amount of available space and the amount of used-up space. Swipe down the screen to see how much space is taken up by each app and type of content, including Music, Podcasts, and Photos.

I have 17.4GB of free space. But it tells me that the “storage dedicated to media” is full. Why is there a storage limit for media when I have over 17GB of free space in total...
