Parental Controls for Teens over 13

How do you set up parental controls for family members who are over the age of 13? I have a teen with special needs who cannot be trusted with screen time. Additionally I would like to limit access to social media or the ability to download or delete apps. Any suggestions. I already checked the Screen time settings it is is limited to children under 13. Seriously, since when is a 13 year old considered an adult?

Hey there TX_mom_of_Teens,

We understand you've been unable to set up parental controls for someone over the age of 13. We'll be happy to help.

You should still be able to enable parental controls by using Screen Time, even if they are over 13. This can be done with a passcode on the device or through Family Sharing.

To set this up, you'll want to follow the steps from the section "Set a Screen Time passcode" here: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

For additional information on how parental controls work, check this out: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If for any reason you still experience issues, reach out to Apple directly: Get Support

We hope this helps. Cheers!
