Apple recently updated a Support Article on this topic. Actually, this came with iOS 14.4.

Turn headphone notifications on or off

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics, then tap Headphone Safety.
  3. Turn Headphone Notifications on or off.*

You can also turn on Reduce Loud Sounds to automatically lower your headphone volume when it exceeds your set decibel level.

*Due to regulations and safety standards, headphone notifications can't be turned off in certain countries or regions.

This indicates the assertion the option to turn this setting off is not correct. It does appear that in some countries and regions the setting cannot be turned off.

Did you buy your phone in a region or list your region in your phone as one which would prevent you from turning this setting off?

Incredibly enough out of accident I had the lightning earpods plugged in after I had registered the 3.5mm adapter.

For some reason now when I have the lightning earpods in (not even 3.5mm headphones) I can now select whether it is headphones plugged in or not. This is running IOS 14.4.

This could be a glitch, but I know my lightning earpods are no longer recognized as headphones, because it doesn't respond to "reduce loud sounds".

So even when the lighting earpods are connected, you go to lightning adapters and turn off "connected to headphones". This has worked well for me. I am receiving no more warnings.

You can select this when any lightning connection is plugged in. I cannot speak for BlueTooth but it works. You just have to register the 3.5mm adapter with your phone as an "other device". Then you can disconnect the adapter and plug anything else into your phone, and the software will believe that is what is connected and bypass the headphone restrictions if you keep it turned off.

At least in the US, if you go to Settings > Privacy > Health, you will see "Headphone Audio Levels" at the top. It's the mechanism in which iOS will actually measure your audio exposure on your AirPods. I hoped that if I turned that feature off, that it couldn't actually adjust the level down, but that does not appear to be the case thus far. I'm going to restart my device and see what happens on my walk in the next little while.

Okay, so like many others may have found, the new 14.4 update in the UK has made it so you can choose what kind of Bluetooth device your music is coming through. So my Anker Soundcore speaker was set to ‘headphones’ so no wonder it kept turning the volume down. Now set to ‘speaker’ and so far I’ve had no issues. Can those that are using headphones, perhaps change their settings on Bluetooth to say it is a ‘speaker’? I hope this works! :)

This annoys me too, especially as I’m not actually listening on headphones, my Bluetooth speaker is far away and across the workshop so I need it loud.

the only way I have found to combat this when there is no disable button is to delete the data on my health app, you have to be “on it” though, because as soon as it detects 7 days of loud listening it will turn it down.

if anyone knows a better way or found this doesn’t work please let me know.
