DMG file mounts but then won't open/run

I am not very tech-savvy so may not get the terminology quite right here, but hopefully this makes sense.

I downloaded a dmg file by canon for their digital photo professional software (from their offical website here). I am running Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6 on a MacBook pro and have an eos 70D camera. The file mounts, but when i then try and open the mounted installation file it seem to crash before opening. It starts extracting the files and I see an icon open for a split second down next to the trash icon but then it disappears completely and nothing actually opens properly. I have tried looking everywhere for info online, but it's all directed towards how to actually mount the file - but in my case it seems to be mounting just fine. I've tried different canon downloads too (eg eos utility etc) and the same thing happens. I've also downloaded the files multiple times and tried different ways of mounting them but still experiencing the same problem. I have no idea what's going on!

Try downloading the file using another browser.

Try moving the installer from the mounted .dmg volume to the Downloads folder your Mac. The Right-click or Control-click on the file and select "Open". See if this allows you to install the app.

You can also try booting into Safe Mode and trying to run the installer.

If you are running any anti-virus software, cleaning apps, or other third party security software, then maybe these apps are interfering with the installer. You should uninstall these apps by following the developer's instructions. These types of apps are not needed on a Mac and usually cause more problems than they solve plus they impact system performance.

If you still have problems, then you will need to contact Canon tech support. Only users with a valid Canon serial number can even download the file.

Run Disk Utility First Aid on the drive. I would even try running First Aid on the Container as well. To see & select the Container you will need to click on "View" within Disk Utility and select "Show All Devices" so that the physical drive and Container appear on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if First Aid reports everything as "Ok" click on "Show Details" and look to see if there are any unfixed errors listed which would indicate a problem. For some reason apple isn't being truthful in the First Aid scan results.

You may need to reinstall macOS over top of itself in case some system files have become corrupted or damaged. You can boot into Recovery Mode using Command + R where you can select to "Install macOS". Or you can create a bootable macOS USB installer. This should not affect your data, but you should definitely make sure you have a good backup first just in case something goes wrong.

If you still have problems, try downloading the file again.
