Importing photos - multiple files

I am trying to import photos from my iPhone (11 Pro, v14.1) to my iMac. I hate the Photos app, so I drag the photos from Image Capture over to the Finder. A single image then creates 2-3 files.

Examples:

  • Pulling over an edited photo creates an original HEIC, an edited HEIC, and a sidecar file (IMG_9103.HEIC, IMG_E9103.HEIC, IMG_9103.AAE)
  • Pulling over a portrait mode image creates an original (non-portrait) HEIC, an edited HEIC, and a sidecar file for *both* (IMG_9103.HEIC, IMG_E9103.HEIC, IMG_9103.AAE, IMG_O9103.AAE)

What I would like to do:

  1. Have it pull over a single, edited file from my phone to my finder
  2. Retain EXIF data, including the original creation/capture date

I can delete out the sidecar files, but the other duplicates really cause an issue. I don't edit every single photo, so it gets really confusing when I try to figure out which I need to save/catalogue.

Help please! This has always been irritating, but recent updates seem to have made this even worse.
