App auto-update asks me for password over and over without actually taking effect

Whenever I try to turn on auto-update for my apps, or press "update all" in the app store, my phone asks me for my password over and over without doing anything. The only way I can update apps is one at a time, and I have to enter my password for each one. What do I need to do in order to stop this from happening?

Some background info: my phone is up to date, I have tried restarting it, I have tried turning "find my" off and then back on again, I have tried signing out of and then back in to iCloud. None of these methods have worked so far.
