NUMBERS - lock and copy formulas

I am making a spreadsheet with detailed information of my product assortment. I have created a "template" on one product, that I want to copy and use on all my products - but only the formulas, not the numbers. I can only copy everything......

I also want to lock the formulas, but want to be able to change the input (it locks the entire sheet when I try).

I really need this to work or I will have to buy excel (and my husband will win our argument that numbers is crap...)

Help:-)

You can lock individual tables in Numbers, but not specific cells within a table.

Unlike with Excel, in Numbers you can easily have multiple tables on one sheet, so you can put cells you don't want overwritten in a table of their own. The table can be as small as one cell. The ability to have multiple tables on the same sheet provides conveniences that Excel can't match.

But depending on what you are trying to do Excel may be a better choice for you.

I find both to be excellent apps, each with different strengths.

Not exactly sure what you mean here. What you describe is generally what spreadsheets are designed to do. You set up a formula that takes inputs from other cells. It calculates and display a result in its cell. When you change the inputs in the other cells the formula updates the result in its cell automatically.

You don't have to "lock" in order for the formula to do this. A lock helps to prevent accidentally changing or deleting the formula.

Suggest having a look at the templates at File > New in your menu to get a feel for how formulas work in Numbers.
