Ipad 10.2 and Mouse

I have been trying to connect my apple blue tooth mouse (2 generation) to my new 10,2 ipad. Theoretically it should work, from what I have read. The ipad searches, but cannot find the mouse.

Blue tooth is on on the ipad and the mouse is switched on.

Can anybody help?
