Senders' Names Now Reversed in Mail Inbox (iOS 14.2)

Do your contacts also display "first, last"? I'm attempting to get emails to read "first, last" (e.g.: The Home Depot and not Depot The Home) while keeping the contacts as "last, first". It was that way prior to the update and that is the dilemma that some of us are having. Thanks!

Sorry to everyone fussing with the order of contact NAMES, but the unsolved problem also raised in this three is the Yoda-speech-like reversal of the wording in emails subject lines. That showed up in thus recent update and is disconcerting as there is no specifically targeted control to revert back to normal English sentence structure in the subject lines. Hero status to whomever delivers the cure.

That doesn’t help me either. Company emails not showing in my contacts are still jumbled, Shoes Mountford when it should read Mountford Shoes. I can’t find a way to alter this either. This is very disconcerting. Why Apple do you alter things just for the sake of altering? You are starting to mess up your product.

Please just put the sender identification in the EXACT order we would expect it. It’s absurd that I am expected to unscramble the words to identify who I am getting mail from.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned City name before so I don’t know how to answer that one.

We all have different phone models and email accounts, and I would expect some variation in behaviour.

I use Outlook app so Mail is of only academic interest to me but it affects my other messaging apps too.

I appreciate that you are a level 6 but clearly you cannot comprehend that by your suggested “fix” of one issue it creating another for most persons (sorting last / first and displaying as First / Last) is NOT a “fix” or “solved” at all. Therefore please refrain from saying such as it leads Apple away from actually coming up with a workable solution. Such as offer an further level of contact sort specifically for email. Again this issue is by no means fix or solved.

I agree. Anything less than a full and correct fix that allows us to see our emails in the right sorting order while allowing to keep our contacts sorted by [Last Name] [First Name] takes Apple’s eye off the ball I want this fixed properly in 14.3. There was no need to change it

With respect to all, the reason it should be fixed is because it is incorrect. People have first and last names, and how they are sorted is a preference. Companies, publications and other entities do not have first and last names. To reverse the wording of their legal names is not a preference, it is a mistake.

That corrects the problem for email senders for new and existing emails but, not surprisingly, changes the way my contacts appear. I would like a solution that allows email senders to be First, Last and contacts to be displayed Last, First, as names are typically displayed in directories. - exactly.

I do not want either or, I want both to be correct.

Another boneheaded change lately from the developers at Apple. I’m beginning to wonder what they’re thinking sometimes. Changed the contacts setup. But seriously, who wants to see a contacts list that displays the first name first? OTOH, I don’t want to see an email display of York Times The New.

Just fix this nonsense already. I’m not going to set up some workaround that fixes one thing and messes up another. If the developers can’t figure out how to make this right, then they should all be replaced. What a debacle for Apple. EMBARRASSING AND DISGRACEFUL!

They are just as easy , same order, can still use the A-Z shortcut border down right of screen

They are identical except col 1 and 2 are swapped

I cannot find any logic in your post.

• Your contacts will NOT be sorted by first name
• Your sender names for new mail will NOT be jumbled after making this workaround

There are two in Settings, Contacts

These are my preferred.

Warning, as said earlier in this workaround your contacts will be sorted by last name but first name in column1.
