iPhone can't see Photos Library when synced

My photo Library is on a separate hard drive, when syncing iPhone, it goes through all the stages but can't see the photo library as it's grayed out as an option to elect photo library in the syncing page? Help?

Hi.

The photo library needs to be set to your system photo library.

Click the button in Photos preferences (General Tab)

Also - is your external drive properly prepared as described in the link below?

The external storage must be connected to your mac (not a network drive) and must be formatted APFS or MacOS extended (journaled), and not be used for time machine. It should not be on a memory stick, SD or similar. It stands to reason that if you want any sort of reasonable performance it should be a fast drive with a fast connection.

Thanks for asking all these questions, making me think hard about the problem. When I select iPhone in finder and go to photos, it asks to (checkbox) sync photos your device from: Photos - and the first attachment is the response

Then I switch to iPhoto 3 TB HD which is where my library is IPhoto Library.photoslibrary, but I can't select it, just the overall hard drive, and the second attachment is the response there and nothing happens, no photos are moved.

If the option "Use as System Photo Library" is dimmed, then the library is already your System Photo Library.

How is your external volume :"Photo 3 TB HD" connected? The volume needs to be locally mounted with a wired connection, not accessed over the network. Is the volume directly plugged in?

It seems that Photos can use the Photos Library correctly, if you can launch Photos and it is showing the correct path to the library. Can you view the photos and add adjustments?

What exactly happens, when you try to sync the iPhone?

when syncing iPhone, it goes through all the stages but can't see the photo library as it's grayed out as an option to elect photo library in the syncing page?

Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing when syncing?
