Time Machine encryption password

I have an encrypted external HD for my Mac. Despite many times requesting the saving of the password in Keychain it doesn't. To make matters more confusing sometimes on start-up I am asked for the password to unlock the HD so that Time Machine can start using it, sometimes it doesn't ask and sometimes if it asks and you do nothing after a period of time it starts without entering a password.

All other Keychain and Internet passwords work. I can find no evidence of a Time machine password in Keychain.

Search Keychain for the volume's name. You should find it with Kind='encrypted volume password'. You may have an old password still in keychain that's getting in the way. Try deleting it, or delete them all and start again.

If the disc cannot be opened d/t encryption, how do I locate the keychain?

Were you using the same password that you’ve used every time you use time machine reinstall? I have and now the hd disc won’t take it; that it’s encrypted. Not happened before. Bought this rig pro 2019 this past April and have had problems ever since. Suggestions?
