External monitor randomly disconnects/reconnects from Macbook Pro
Setup
I have a brand new Macbook Pro 16", connected to a Sceptre 4k external display via DisplayPort to USB-C.
Problem
Throughout my regular usage, the external monitor will seemingly disconnect & then reconnect. This means that over a period of roughly 5 seconds, both displays will briefly go black > the Macbook display will briefly reappear as the only monitor > then both monitors go black again > then the external monitor reappears again as if nothing happened.
The behavior is disruptive, I am motivated to find a permanent solution.
What I've tried without success
- Wiggling the cable to see if it was a connection issue. Not the issue.
- Reconnecting the DisplayPort to the monitor. Not the issue.
- Connecting the USB-c cable to another port in the Macbook. Not the issue.
- Turning the monitor on/off.
- Restarting the Macbook - did not provide a permanent fix.
Additional information
- This happens randomly, without regular interval, and could happen rarely or frequently throughout the day.
- Throughout the day, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor via the USB-C > DisplayPort connection.
- The behavior is not specific to any application I am using, nor is it specific to the task I am performing.
- I do not regularly shut down my machine and do not desire to do so. Instead, I put my machine to sleep.
- I did not have this issue with this monitor + cord when connected to another Macbook Pro that I had.
I'm hoping someone is aware of a permanent solve. Thanks in advance!
