We have a security camera in one of our rooms and we can set it to night mode to see better in the dark. Whenever I am watching the camera and I see my wife with her phone, her phone flashes whenever receiving text messages. But she does not see this with her eye herself. We can only see the light flashing through the security camera. Why is this?

Hello DrWatt0523, if you're seeing a light flash on your security cameras from your wife's iPhone it could very well be part of the FaceID sensors to detect if you've picked up the phone or if you're face is near the device to begin unlocking the phone before you even pick it up/ display is turned on. This helps make the iPhone unlock quicker.
Your security camera is picking up the IR light from the iPhone when your wife looks at it. IR (Infra Red) light is not usually visible to the naked eye, but cameras can see it.
