New MacBook Air M1 and Super Ultrawide Monitor Support

So the tech specs for the MacBook Air and Pro M1 both say only connects to one external display up to 6K resolution @ 60hz.

Can one of you video gurus answer if this will be able to support a 32:9 Ultrawide monitor running 5120x1440p @120hz? Thanks for the help!

Hi have an MBA M1 and trying to connect to my Acer ultra wide at 3440x1440

Max res i see is 2560x1080. Even when use Options to display other available resolutions the max I see is 2560x1440

Connection is using HDMI using Choetech USBc adapter

How can I get the 3440x1440 resolution? Should I be using a different cable? DisplayPort to Thunderbolt perhaps?

It depends on what adapter you use. I have an Acer Nitro XV340CK 34" 21:9 ultra-wide displaying at 3440x1440, 100Hz (144Hz only works if I change the width to 2560 strangely). The only way I have managed to achieve this is by using adapters that support HDMI 2.0. I have tried the official Apple AV multiport adapter (updated a couple years ago to support HDMI 2.0) and a cheap Plugable USB-C to HDMI 2.0 adapter I got from Amazon a while back. Both work flawlessly for the ultra-wide 1440p 100Hz.

My only gripe is that for some reason, the 900p HiDPI mode that was available on my old 15" MacBook Pro now doesn't work with the M1 chip Macs. Not sure why that is, but maybe that could be patched in a future software update.

Hope this info helps.

Hey, I am in the same boat. I have a Macbook Air M1 and my Anker docks, who support 4k worked on Windows with my 3440x1440 iiyama-monitor. On Mac I only got a stretched screen.

Now I have this adapter:

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08FWMWGTD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now I have the right resolution, but the text is blurry as **** - No chance to get the text as sharp as on my Lenovo T470s (Intel HD620)

Currently I am very dissatisfied with this situation. My monitor is 2 months old and I can't really use it - Because I always see how good the image with my Windows-machine is :-(

That is the way apple displays fonts sadly, i had a mac mini years and years back and was looking if they had changed that, but looking at your screen pictures, sadly they have not.

I send that mac mini back after 2 days, it seems mac-os still uses that horrible font rendering and doesn't support my 3440x1440 at 144HZ monitor. Windows 10 does of course even some crappy linux distro's do, but apple ; Nope.
