Overheating MacBook Pro after Big Sur instal

After instaling new macOS on my MacBook Pro it continuously heats up to 75C while doing nothing. I resterted my mac couple times with no effect, and i checked if there is no any app running in background. Is anyone got same problem after that update?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

I have the same issue. MBP 16inch overheating after updating to Big Sur last night. I've restarted many times and still my Mac's fans start while it's sitting idle with nothing running in the background. This is definitely software related.

Yes, BLoi, I have the same problem. I too disabled Google Chrome Helper from within my Chrome settings and it does periodically appear in the Activity Monitor with an increasingly high energy impact. I force quit the application and all is well for a while. I find it hard to decide where to place the blame - Big Sur or Chrome...very frustrating

Apples lack of response on this is deafening. At least they could acknowledge so many user issues. Chrome is not the issue on my laptop. When the fans spin up I look at activity monitor and nothing suggests problems. (15 inch 2015 macbook pro). I simply opened safari to look at my checking account and the fans immediately started spinning. Someone else suggested there is an issue with Big Sur causing turboboost to go into intermittent surging. Maybe? Have not checked it out yet. Feels like Apple has gotten arrogant. So many software upgrades and using us as their beta testers. I am not going to invest in a brand new laptop. Is this a scheme? About to abandon Apple.

Yes, I have the exact same problem. After upgrading, my fan is going crazy, the machine is hot, and it drains the battery in no time. I have been through all of the steps in this article but it still is happening. https://macreports.com/how-to-fix-big-sur-battery-drain-issues/#:~:text=Some%20users%20have%20reported%20that%2C%20after%20upgrading%20to,warm%20and%20the%20fan%20runs%20loudly%20and%20continually.

I have also noticed that in the Activity Monitor the kernalmanagerd process is running at 70% CPU and my machine is super slow.

I'm running a 2018 15" Macbook Pro with 32GB RAM / 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9

Same issue here.

MBP15" 2018 i7 2.6ghz 32GB RAM 1TB SSD intel uhd 630 and radeon pro 560

After working with big sur for over a month now it is running between 50 and 65° C with no external display.

Running with Apple Thunderbolt display and LG 5K 27" it is running between 65° and 85° with peaks at up to 100°.

I have set my fans so that they run 100% as of 60° C of CPU Proximity

Usual apps MS Office incl. Teams, several parallel instances of FileMaker, apple music and or spotify. Sometimes Parallels with Win 10 or different versions of MacOS.

Catalina and Mohave on this machine were running on average 10° less.

Same. I JUST bought this new Macbook Pro for school and I regret updating to Big Sur. Nothing but problems! Preview was no longer working with my Canon MX492 printer scanner on Draft mode and I had to search for and re-install drivers and figure out why in order to stop wasting money printing, the laptop is overheating and the fan is super load when doing nothing more than watching a youtube video and the USB-C port won't work with my external Dell 4k monitor via its Displayport connection but somehow works with HDMI...? I called Apple but seriously, how is it my job to fix these things, I am busy and bought a new laptop to solve problems with my previous 2013 Macbook lagging and flashing screen colour changes and blurring when watching videos.... Isn't it included in the $2500 CAN price tag to do the work of making sure your laptop functions properly? I think I need to roll back to Catalina!

I've been struggling with the overheating issue and have tried everything listed on every page I could find. Nothing worked until today. I've noticed that the file structure has changed significantly with Big Sur (well, insiders knew this all along) and that after re-structuring my data the overheating problem went away.

I used to have all folders directly under my hard_drive. This is no longer desirable according to the new OS structure and the system expects all files to be in the documents folder under the users, that is /hard_drive/users/myloginname/documents/folder instead of /hard_drive/folder. This apparently caused to issues:

1) Sherlock constantly tried to update but couldn't quite come to an end because of permission issues. This also led to the fact that files that were there wouldn't no longer appear in a Sherlock search.

2) Word would always get messed up with permissions, wanting me to grant access to a file. Also, Word no longer was able to properly open files from the "recent" list.

After moving my folders to the appropriate location, all these issues, including the overheating disappeared. Running one day now with a cool mac and much less battery drain. Hope it stays this way.

I finally upgraded to Big Sur and noticed the fans running which was unusual after Catalina. Using Activity Monitor, I finally found an app I had installed previously called OverSight running a process called OverSightXPC which was using over 70% of CPU. I deleted this app since the privacy settings in System Preferences can control access to the microphone and camera and the fans have not come back on.
