Downloaded Big Sur for my wife's MacBook Pro when installing machine has stuck with a black screen
My wife's 13" Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM) is also stuck at a black/blank* screen during the upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur. The machine can be turned off by holding down the power-button, which makes the screen turn off (i.e. completely black), but when it's turned on again (i.e. pressing the power-button) the screen goes back to being black/blank.
I have tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM, but this doesn't change anything.
Any bright suggestions?
* No image is displayed, but you can tell that the panel isn't off, as it is when the machine is powered off.
Exact same issue here on my wife’s 2014 13” MBP. Doesn’t respond to PRAM reset, recovery mode etc. Apple support have escalated the case and hope to get back to me next week
I have the same issue, went to iStore and they want to send my laptop for repairs, could take week or two. Hoping that they resolve it quicker for you. Please post an update when you know what to do.
I’m having the same issue. It’s been stuck for hours. What is Apple suggesting?
My MacBook Pro -late 2013 is bricked. Called Apple and the cost is over $500.00. I’m hopeful a fix is coming soon.
I've experienced the exact same behavior post Big Sur upgrade, except that my MBP is a mid-2016 with the touch bar! It's goes into Apple for repair next week. Pretty disgusted, actually.
I have the same problem on my MBP 13” 2014. Black screen, no Apple logo and the keyboard is not working.
I have called Apple support but no resolve, they schedule me a service appointment.
Are they making you pay for it?
Mine too. Nov 2013 MacBook Pro retina. Bricked by the big sur update.. Keen for help on a fix...
2015 15” MBP here, paid the local Apple shop $75 for them to tell me the logic board is dead. Glad I hung on to it at least.
I will see when I go there.
installation went fine but somtimes my macbook pro restarts twice after a restart and sometimes becomes unresponsive
I've had the same thing. Apple told me to get it repaired at my own cost. Very unimpressed, since it was the Big Sur update that bricked my MacBook, not my fault at all.
I paid for an authorized Apple to install the Catalina, because I tried everything at home, pressing the keys and still on the black screen, damm apple, I need my money back
this worked for me, thank you!
same for me!!! anyone can help me with that
