Everytime on my MacBook Pro 16" 10.15.7 I try to update Garageband it keeps saying "GarageBand can’t be installed on “MacBook Pro” because macOS version 11 or later is required"
So I deleted it and tried to new download from the Mac App Store and STILL and getting this message!

It's showing up in my late 2012 Mac mini app store as well. It's too old to install Big Sur. It automatically downloaded and installed the newest versions of the iWork apps, but Garage Band just sits there telling me an update is available it won't let me actually do!
I have macOS 10.15.7, but the App Store still shows an update for Garageband, and the update fails because GB requires macOS 11 now. So it isn't resolved for me.
Easiest solution: drag the app to the trash but do NOT empty it. Restart your Mac. Open trash and “put back” the app.
I have a similar setup too. That was my reaction at first, but then I wondered about the video graphics chip? Or is this simply a trick to encourage the purchase of new hardware?

I think it's simply a bug at the App Store backend.
Same issue! Running 10.15.7 on 2014 MacBook Pro, and hesitant to update to Big Sur since this is the only bug I am experiencing (knock on wood).

Sign in with YOUR Apple ID, then go to your “Purchased” Section. Garage band should appear there with the option to re-download.
I'll try that – but I've never had, used, or downloaded Garage Band before.
