Pages not opening documents in Big Sur

Hi, all. I have just updated to Big Sur and Pages will not open my old Pages documents. Pages will open and create a new document, but it will not open documents created in Catalina -- UGH!!! I found a way around it for the moment, until they make an update. I share the old document by sending it to email, then open the email attachment, copy it, and paste it into a new Pages document. I hope they put out a new Pages update soon that fixes this bug!

Dear AlchemyLab -- No misunderstanding; we're talking about the same Cache's folder, but I don't want to completely empty it and remove the caches from all of the other applications. I have many Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge caches, maps, Corel, etc., that I don't want to trash, even if the files can be rebuilt. I'm not an expert on caches, but I just don't trust trashing everything from every application???? I'll just wait to see what Apple does before I do anything that drastic! Thanks.

Hey Barbara, I've been reading this conversation of yours and other users for the past four days now, and I've got your exact SAME problem but haven't managed to solve it. I'm refreshing the replies under your question everyday now, but will only follow what you say haha :)

I feel skeptical too about deleting everything in my Caches folder (even because I don't have that much of experience on a Mac)...

I've tried EVERYTHING to get my iWork apps back working again, but I guess there must be just a tiny easter-egg in the 'initialisation of the app'...

Hopefully Apple manage to solve this error in the coming day or two... it's annoying that you can't be able to use these essential apps on your computer!

I'll be following your advice, from Italy :)

Hi, Beneholley -- what I have been doing is right-clicking on an existing Pages or Numbers file and choosing the Quick Look option. It opens the file so that you can read and refer to it, but it will not allow you to copy or edit it in any way. You can zoom in on the file to make it more readable. I have been using Text Edit until they get the bug fixed, which I hope will be soon, and at least Text Edit is giving me an option, although it is not as sophisticated as Pages -- as for Numbers files not opening, you can see them under the Quick Look option, but you can't do much with them in Text Edit. HAVE A GREAT DAY!

That's the same exact error that one of my customer had few days ago and the only way to solve (leaving iCloud sync active) was to delete all the cache files and open files copied somewhere, outside the Macintosh HD.

I can assure you that there is no danger deleting cache files in yourhome/Library/Caches folder. The single apps will recreate that files and the only thing that could happens is that the first time that you fire an app you will have to wait a little bit more than usual.

To tell the truth there's another workaround: if you know somebody that still uses Mojave, you can send him/her the file and ask him/her to open it and save as a .doc(x) file. You will be able to open that doc file.

It's clearly a bug in the actual Pages version and probably Apple will release a patch, soon I hope.
