The application “HPScanner” can’t be opened.

Since certain version of Big Sur (I don't think this problem started with the first beta), and definitely with the just released official version, my HP Deskjet F4180 (HP Deskjet F4100 series) is not working. I haven't tried printing, but the scanning feature that was part of the macOS is not working. Is anyone else having the same problem? Any advise as to how to fix it? I've followed an Apple article, which leads to a HP article, to no avail.

The initial error message is this:

“HPScanner” will damage your computer.

If you click on OK, this pops up:

The application “HPScanner” can’t be opened.

And the scanner app itself shows this message:

Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)

I already have a pile of papers I haven't been able to scan. If you can, please help.

Thank you..!

By the time you wrote the first time, I had already used the hp.com link to download a uninstaller, which I used. Then I downloaded the ftp file you suggested and executed. Then I tried to add the printer but it didn't work.

Then, using Time Machine, I restored an hp folder to computer/Library/Printers, and that I re-run the file you provided on the ftp. Again, I'm no longer able to add the printer.

This is a disgrace!

Yes it is HP is lagging behind.
