Keyboard Lag after Big Sur

I am experiencing issues with my keyboard after updating to Big Sur yesterday, it seems to have mind of it's own, typing anything is a challenge as I have to recheck every key stroke, and it seems to effect every key randomly even the space bar!...is anyone experiencing anything similar?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

What exact Mac is this?

Internal keyboard / external keyboard?

Have you rebooted?

have you tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM hthttp://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 ?

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test as caches get rebuilt.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

Guys, just an update.

I was able to fix the problem by resetting the bluetooth module.

That fixed the problem BOTH on the internal keyboard AND the bluetooth keyboard. My system is running fine now.

In case it helps anyone, what I did what's to click on the bluetooth icon in the menu bar while holding down SHIFT OPTION.

You will see an option "Reset the bluetooth module". That did the trick for me.

I heard when that doesn't fix it, the other option "Factory reset all connected Apple devices" will fix it, but I can't say for sure as I didn't have to get that far.

Cheers,

This seems to be happening to A LOT of people (myself included), as a quick Google search will reveal.

I have a MBP 16" 2019 and I've tried everything described here to no avail.

Funny enough, booting into Safe Mode made everything much, much worse. Typing while in safe mode is nearly impossible as the typing lag is 10-15s (not kidding).\

I do have an original Apple bluetooth keyboard and I can confirm the typing lag occurs on both keyboards (the builtin one is not any better).

I spoke to soon....I spent 2 hours with apple yesterday, and while grateful to have the help, I still have the same issue...what I've noticed is that, whichever screen I am working (or viewing) there is a "fade in fade out" every 10 seconds..even the apple techie could see this live, every time I happen to be typing during the "fade out" phase, the key does not register....so I have to go back checking all my entries, I's driving me nuts! The apple techie got me to reinstall Big Sur...no change the intermittent fade is still there...so back to apple again...if you have a touch bar on your mac this is very obvious as every ten seconds it will switch off and then switch back on!!!

I guess we have to wait for the next OS release hoping it will address the problem. In the meantime i am also trying to figure out why starting up my iMac is like -> i go make my coffee, bake cookies and still the desktop icons isn't there....And that on an iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017) purchased in March 2018 with 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, and Radeon Pro 560 4 GB( Fusion Drive 1TB) I did try all resets, reboots etc. but nothing helped and all that once i upgraded to Big Sur. If the next OS release doesn't fix the problem i guess i just have to clean instal Big Sur.. and thought the PC world had such issues....

Thank you, LeniNeto! Although resetting the Bluetooth module didn't help me, you still lead me to the right direction. Factory resetting all connected Apple devices fixed it for me. (iMac Retina 5k, 27 in, 2020)

Heads up: if you end up having to factory reset all connected Apple devices, you'll need to manually reconnect both your Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse by connecting them to your computer via a USB-C to Lightning Cable or a Lightning to USB cable.

> After manually connecting, a pop up will show up letting you know your mouse/keyboard has been wirelessly connected; at that point you can disconnect it from the cable and continue to use as before without the keyboard lag.

For those who are dumb like me the "shift option" means holding shift and option while clicking the bluetooth menu. I was like... "holding shift down doesn't give me that menu" ;-)

Hooray. I have been having issues on the previous OS as well that I was just living with. Now it seems my computer is 90% more responsive. Why doesn't Apple just do this when they install a new OS?
