Hi

Was able to "unmount" the drive:

One or more volume(s) failed to mount

$ diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk2s2

Unmount of all volumes on disk2 was successful

$ diskutil mountDisk /dev/disk2s2

One or more volume(s) failed to mount

$ diskutil mountforceDisk /dev/disk2s2

diskutil: did not recognize verb "mountforceDisk"; type "diskutil" for a list

my syntax is off on "mount force" apparently the list of commands has been changed

is there any point in running the "verify" or "repair" functions ??

Thanks !

ps called apple support - zero help there !

:(

could it be that the Samsung SSD driver was corrupted ? Samsung were NOT helpful ! :(

diskutil repairDisk /dev/disk11

Repairing the partition map might erase disk11s1, proceed? (y/N) N

Repair cancelled

rolfs-iMac-4:~ rolf$ diskutil mount /dev/disk11

Unable to find disk for /dev/disk11

Started 3rd party recovery and ran it - it could see the volume with data structure intact - with it running, I re-input

diskutil mountDisk /dev/disk11

Volume(s) mounted successfully

went to DU and tried to run repair - ran successfully

but didn't mount

"Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting"

I'm investigating this now

Thank you
