Macbook Air - Hangs after Big Sur update

I was updating my MacBook Air (2020) to Big Sur and after 4 hours it did not display anything onscreen. I waited for another 2 hours and I had to force shutdown. It boots up to the screen where it prompts me for the password and once I enter the password it goes to "You shut down your computer because of a problem. If you want to open the applications that were open when you shut down, click open. If you do nothing, the computer will continue the login in "N" seconds. I have tried waiting till it goes to 1 second and it hangs there. When I click cancel, nothing happens. When I click open the rainbow wheel spins for hours. Any idea how I can resolve this?

Hi selvam14,

We see you're having trouble getting your Mac started. We would recommend trying to start the Mac in Safe Mode. You can learn how to do that here: Start up your Mac in safe mode

If the issue persists you can reinstall macOS via Recovery. You can learn how to do that here: About macOS Recovery on Intel-based Mac computers

We hope this helps.

Have a great weekend.
