WiFi Speeds (iPhone 12 Pro Max)

Anybody else having slow or inconsistent WiFi speeds on iPhone 12 Pro Max? I know it’s not my WiFi because all my other devices work as usual including my iPhone X which is still have/upgraded from.

Qualcomm is significantly better modems than Intel in previous generations of iPhone. I have coverage in places that I didnt have prior. Same carrier and location too. It is not a cheaper modem. They just didn't clearly do enough testing to ensure it is very efficient at performance. I am not sure if the wifi card is integrated into the cellular modem. If they are using AX Intel chipsets that would be why it is poor performance.

I went to Genius bar at Apple Store. The Apple support staff tested with me few sets of iphone 12 pro max including the new replacement set. All show slow wifi speed. The iphone 12/pro ( not max) performed normal compared to the pro max. So there is no point to replace with new set. They are going to raise feedback to Engineering regarding pro max. Will need to wait some time to see what’s the next step.

The problem does seem to me to centre around the WiFi system, I did find a AX 5G band modem where my 12 Pro Max was the same download speed as other older IOS devices, but only one WiFi modem so far.

My down load speed (upload is the same) n 2013 modem on the 5G band is about 20% slower, my modem has a local WiFi speed test to the modem (once the App was updated to work) which shows 350Mbits download where the internet speed max out at 50Mbit on my ISP plan which is where the differences in download speed show up -20%.

Maybe Apple are having trouble with the new modem Qualcomm chip-set and the various modem standards.

thans WildClyde. That seems like most likely related symptom for me too. I have mesh and all things now being equal and repeated attempts. Notice differences moving around house and trying to force rejoin to different satallites all on same ssid. In one area of house things improve. And one time I even saw 490MB/s. It’s not a complete show stopper for me and i no longer have my prior phone to go back to. So hoping they will fix. 14.3 didn’t fix.

In my case my device was connected to the first network of the modem but it had two more networks and when I connected to the third network the speed improved a lot! Example: 9.25mbps to 340mbps, since i got my new device i noticed the slowness being that my home internet is 1GB, it was a huge difference in speed and solved my problem!

I have the exact same problem. 50-50Mbos download is the max I get with my ATT iPhone with a dual sim/eSim iPhone 12 Pro Max. Router is fine. Did all recommended trouble shooting with router reset network settings rebooted router etc etc. Compared to another iPhone 12 Pro Max on same network test conditions same speed test server and that 12 pro max gets 500+ down and 40+ upload. Brought phone back yesterday and they swapped it under Apple Care+. Restored last night and this morning same exact problem again, duplicate side by side comparison results. The only difference we can find is one phone has dual SIMS the other does not. Turned off all cellular plans comparing only Wi-Fi speeds , same results. Any help appreciated - no apps running in background - running iOS 14.3 latest update. It’s very frustrating to see such disparate performance between identical devices side by side

Just got this message from an Apple Support troubleshooting session...

"Thank you so much for waiting while I researched. I can confirm that our engineers are aware of this issue and it is currently under investigation. While I don't have an ETA on a fix just yet, rest assured they are aware and working to correct the matter right now. When the fix has been designed, it will be pushed to your device, most likely in a bug fix included in an iOS update. In the mean time, I will escalate your report to increase the matter's urgency. I apologize for the inconvenience and I appreciate your patience as we work to correct it." So, they're aware of the issue. Now we all just need to wait for an IOS fix.
