iPhone 12 camera flicker on video recording

I check it.. 100% agree is software issue about flickering camera.. A problem is a shutter on ios original app. I download app " ProMovie". In settings I took a lower shutter and the issue to fade way..So we haven't any choice. We must waiting for newer versions of iOS.

Yes, in Europe due to the AC power frequency you will need to find a way to shoot at 25 or 50 FPS, likely requiring an app like Filmic Pro.

Its not your phones problem its your light’s problem. If you are using an led tube in your room it happens. Try switching off the tube and use a led bulb the issues goes. Its because led tubes are getting on and off every seconds but our normal eye can’t catch it but a 60fps can catch it thats why.

Note that if you are taking video at 60 FPS, you may be out of sync with the flicker generated by fluorescent and LED lighting.

If you can, try taking a video during daylight hours or under incandescent lighting and see if the flicker continues.

Once again, remember if you are in an area where your AC power is 50 Hz, you will always see flicker at any frame rate that is not evenly divisible by 50 (flicker at 30 and 60 FPS but not at 25 or 50.)

I have exactly the same issue and already chat with one of the apple support which advised me to book a time with their technician. So will go to apple store and check on Monday, 11th of Jan. I have a feeling that this is a hardware issue, which maybe i got a faulty products.

My wife have an exact same iPhone 12 Pro Max, just different colour. She bought the gold one and i use the graphite. But the difference is she doesn't have this issue. I took a video side by side on HD at 60 fps with exact camera settings, and it was significantly different where my phone had a flickering like a slow-mo video and her phone was completely fine.

Can't tell the different on normal day light, only at night with the lights on the house.

Kinda upset as I was using every iPhone since iPhone 4s and this is the first time I have an issue with the phone.

Yes I took my phone to Apple store.The guy said it looks like a hardware problem and they gave me a new phone.Same exact problem.To my knowledge every iPhone 12 has the same issue.

You are genius! That’s what actually happen. I didn’t know that there is a features for auto fps until you told me. So yea, on my wife’s iphone, it was set auto 30 fps, while on my iphone it was set to auto 30 & 60 fps. Both phones now works the same after i change it and make both on the same settings.

I second that it’s a software problem, hardware is not the same on other models and they are having the same issues. It’s most certainly the dynamic tone mapping as someone else pointed out.

If it were me fixing this problem I would throttle how quickly the adjustments are made, something more gradual, because right now it’s too instant and behaves as a machine would. The human eye adjusts slower to those changes, no need for an iPhone to do it any faster, only comes across as overly processed.

It will happen to any camera, whether a phone camera or a $100,000 cinema camera, that tries to shoot a scene illuminated by LEDs flickering at 50 Hz at 60 FPS, due to the reasons cited.

It’s not the cause for any issue seen shooting scenes outside, but it is for any indoor scenes illuminated by LEDs or florescents running off AC at 50 Hz.

previously somebody in this topic discussion recommended to use ProMovieRecorder app. It allows to change frame rates to - 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, 60 120, 240

So, i assumed for now this app or any similar would resolve our issue. I dont see the other option. Unless something apple recommends to us ...... what would not happen :(

Same problem here too (iphone 12 Pro, not max).

Flickering occurs only when lights are on. I am wondering if its a NTSC/PAL problem with video recording.

I have spent 2 hours with apple online support, and provided them recording examples etc yesterday. This sounded like an unfamiliar problem to them, and at the end of troubleshooting, it has been escalated up to the 'engineering team' who I am waiting for a response from.

I would suggest to get in touch with support, and reference this ticket, similar tickets and submit an example video as well to help build a case. Its pretty obvious its a software problem.
