Exporting apple contacts to a spreadsheet

I am trying to export my apple contacts on my Macbook to a spreadsheet - ultimately a .csv but numbers is easy too. I read some advise in the apple community that it is possible to drag contacts to an open numbers spreadsheet. I tried this and it worked for the first 20 or so but then I could not add more. (I have about 200 contacts I want to copy). Often numbers would crash. This should be an easy operation but it is causing me a lot of heartache. Can someone help??
