Shift key not functioning in Messages in Big Sur

I also used the "up" and "down" keys to select the entire text from left or right. I'm hoping for an update to fix this ASAP!

I also have this issue. I was able to select words with shift arrow and now suddenly can't. Its is very hard to train myself out of this as I used it many, many times per day.

This Big Sur rollout is a joke, between this, issues with Bluetooth devices connecting, and also major problems with Norton. C'mon Apple!

I was having this issue, too. However, I just noticed tonight that the shift key is now working as it should!

shoot, sorry. i was looking for shift-selecting multiple imessages to delete from the mac os app. i should have carefully checked the initial question. thanks and sorry to bother.

I have this problem as well, and it's really annoying. Shift + Arrow(s) work in literally all other apps, but not in Messages.

The workaround with Shift + Option + Arrows does highlight words, but it's more annoying and not as precise / optimal. Also saw the thread about unchecking the "Use navigation..." but it doesn't work for me.

Apple, please fix this bug asappp.

EDIT:

Just read that if you double click to open a contact's own window, Shift + Arrow works—and it does. This is yet another workaround though, as most of us don't use individual chat windows for our conversations.

That's hilarious—I just tried that, too, and it works. So the code works ok in pop-out windows but not in the main app? Come on Apple—we pay a fortune for your products and you can't even get your bugs to be consistent?

Same issue on my end. Shift arrow keys work in Safari but not in Messages.

Bless sweet Jesus, it's a Christmas miracle. Working for me too now after 11.1 upgrade. Cross-device syncing in iMessage/Messages seems better so far too.
