Crop Tool not working In Preview Big Sur

I just upgraded the OS on my MacBook pro to Big Sur. I just tried using the crop tool in preview and the cropped section does not match what I cropped. I've inserted 2 pictures. The first picture shows the area I'm trying to crop and the second picture shows the area that is actually cropped. Many thanks for any and all assistance.

SwainsonsThrush, sorry to hear about your issue. I'm not sure if the issue you are describing is the same as the issue I was having. Your post suggests that this is a screenshot capture png issue and not a pdf cropping issue. If this is not the case, you may want to repost with additional information. As a thought, if this is a screenshot issue, if you were using the capture tool to capture your screenshot, you may try using one of the screenshot shortcuts that are available and see if that corrects the problem. Many thanks.

There's not a "capture" issue, there's a "crop" issue. I'm running 11.1 on a 2020 15" MBP.

Open a PDF in Preview.

Select Mark Up.

Select Rectangular Selection.

Drag over a smaller portion of the PDF.

Select Crop to Selection.

What remains is the lower left corner of the PDF, not the selected/cropped portion.

This is happening on multiple files, but not every file. I've rebooted, relaunched Preview, etc.

See attached photos.

AFTER "CROPPING":

Just because a greater volume of users isn't reporting an issue, doesn't mean it's not an issue. It may simply indicate enough people haven't experienced it... yet.

That's a great question and I had not tried on anything other than the pdf file shown. I just did a screenshot and was able to crop it with no problems. The screenshot file was a standard png file. I also selected another pdf file that I had previously saved and successfully cropped it as well. The file that I cannot seem to crop is a pdf version of the local newspaper from today. I had printed the selected page to pdf, and was trying to crop afterwards. Something I have done many times before with no issues. I will try to reprint the page again and see if it works. Many thanks for your help.

Happy Holidays. Sorry to hear about your pdf capture issues in preview. I tested it again just now after reading your response and it seems to be working as it should. I was able to successfully capture several different articles and pictures from the newspaper without issue. I'm running Big Sur 1.1 at the moment. Not sure I helped you. As you can see, there has not been a lot of folks out there reporting this problem and even fewer with a resolution. Best Wishes. Denny

I've done screen shots of what I'm looking at in Firefox, and of pdfs, and of photos. NONE of them are showing anything when I open them up now. I updated to macOS Big Sur Version 11.1 a day or two ago. If I'd known this would b a problem, I would not have updated. They need to find a fix for this now. Using screenshots is necessary for what I do with my computer. I'll be watching to see how this all resolves. Thank you for having the forum so I find what the solutions may be.

Oh, and in the thumbnail the content shows in miniature, just now when I click on it to open it.
