Modifying transitions in iMovie

How do you add transitions without affecting the timing of anything? The purpose of this is to make sure the video timing stays consistent with the audio timing. When adding transitions, that throws it off by however many seconds that is.

I found one website that said you could do this by double clicking and an option would come up that says: "Half -Maintain Project Duration" And this is supposed to make so that the transition spans the clips without adding any time. Not sure if that was an old version, but I don't have that option. How do I do this???

(To be clear, I'm not trying to change the duration of the transition, I know how to do that. I'm trying to make it span the clips so it doesn't add that extra time)

Hi, villazon21,

It is unavoidable that adding transitions will affect the timing sync. of the video and audio. The best way around the problem is to add your transitions first, and then add your audio afterwards.

Since you have already added your audio, try adding your transitions and then slightly varying the speed of the audio clip to keep the sync. You can easily do this by control clicking on the audio clip and selecting Show Speed Editor from the pop up menu. That will reveal a speed adjustment handle in the upper right hand corner of the audio clip. Slide the handle to the left to speed up the audio, and to the right to slow it down. It is easiest if you first expand out your timeline with the little slider located above the timeline to the right.
