Netflix Black Screen with sound

when an external display is connected, Netflix on safari shows a black screen with sound playing in the background, after awhile an error message pops up (error message is attached below). Issue is that using my built in display works just fine, however using an external display doesn't allow me to stream the video. I have contacted Netflix support about it and they told me to contact Apple as it wasn't an issue on their side. Hope someone will be able to help me with this issue

Hello JTYT and welcome to Apple Support Communities. It appears you are having some difficulty with an error message pertaining to High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection when trying to view Netflix content on an external monitor connected to your Mac.

You may find some helpful tips an this support page from Netflix:

I'm getting an HDCP error on my Apple TV.

While the title of the article refers to an Apple TV device, much of the advice is also applicable to a situation involving a Mac and an external monitor connected via HDMI. HDCP is a system for protecting digital content from piracy. While it should only be triggered under very specific circumstances, even something as seemingly minor as a cheap HDMI cable can trigger this error.

Cheers.
