iPhone 12 pro max taking crap photos compared to iPhone 10 max

I have the same issue. I’m a dentist and take a lot of close up photos of patient feet and restorations. I know that iPhone is not designed for macro but all the previous generations has done it excellent. However my 12 Pro Max cannot do close ups to like 4-6 cm. on the other side my old 7plus can do this without any issues at all.

Does that means that the new camera system is better? Not for me. Hope that can be sorted soon with a software update.

As you have suggested I have tried all the modes. No way to make it focus under 10-12 cm distance. No setting or mode that can help. I’ve tried all possible options.

3rd party apps that shows you the focus by highlighting on the object only confirms the issue.
