Missing message history on new iPhone.

I have just got a new iPhone 12 Pro Max, and after restoring from the backup of my XS Max, the iMessage history is not showing up.

I still have the messages on my iPad, but they are missing from my phone.

I tried turning iMessage off and on. I rebooted.

There is 7.1 GB of messages stored on my iCloud ( paid 200GB account )

Right now, the only messages I have are the ones I have received in the last 2 days.

This is causing me concern as I have a lot of work related messages I need to find.

And my recently deceased sisters messages are now not showing up.

How do I display my message history on my new iPhone?

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 14

If you have used the same Apple ID as that of your iPad, while restoring from iCloud then...

When you use Messages in iCloud or turn on iCloud Photos, your content is automatically stored in iCloud. That means that they're not included in your iCloud Backup.

Turn on iCloud for messages and wait for it to populate on your new device. Ensure you use the same Apple ID where your messages are stored.

Thanks for the reply. I only have 1 Apple ID. iMessage back up to iCloud is on. ( hence the way I have all my iMessages showing on all previous iPhones and my iPad. )

Everything else has restored from the cloud ( my photos, contacts, app data, etc etc) I know the data is there as it shows up in my cloud.

I feel like a goose asking this as I have previously worked for apple in tech support, but this has got me stumped.
