Starbucks Gift Card Purchase issue though iMessage

I purchased (or tried to) a Starbucks Gift Card for a friend through IMessage. It just kept spinning and never showed it completed. It did this twice. My friend has never received any gift card from me, iMessage shows nothing was ever sent, yet I was charged $20. On Apple Support it says this is not a refunable charge. Any thoughts?
