Calendar notification snooze in Big Sur?

We just installed Big Sur on our iMacs. Now when we get calendar notifications, we only have an option that says "snooze", with no option to select how long we want to snooze it for. This is really annoying and much less helpful than before, when we had multiple options (1 hour, 1 day, etc.). Are we just missing something here? Is there a way around this? (Note: we've tried clicking and holding "snooze", but no options come up when we do that.) Sure would love some help with this. Thanks.

It is a headache but there is a way ... not all intuitive, though. On the notification, hover the cursor/arrow above the Options button. The date will change to a >. Click on the >. Snooze options will pop up.

That said ... one of the things that has kept me as a Mac user for 30+ years is the intuitive interface. I know Apple can do better with this feature.

I also am very annoyed by the situation. I called Apple before I read this forum and it is true this is what they consider in “update”. It is beyond foolish. With each new operating system things are supposed to work better, not worse. I’ll never understand why people do the things they do. It doesn’t make any sense at all and it needs to go back to the way it was.

I posted the below on the feedback page. While there's some expected "I don't like the way the new OS works with regard to XYZ" issues in Big Sur, they flat out intentionally disabled this feature and made an app THAT I RELIED ON HEAVILY pretty much useless to me. I'm seriously questioning the logic & reason behind this. It's like "Okay everybody, we have to redesign this toaster... how do we make it really pretty, but also ensure that it doesn't actually toast the bread... so you know... that way nobody wants to use it for its intended purpose."

If you're here with the same gripe pls see link in top answer and give feedback.

Dear Apple,

The new snooze feature in the Big Sur Calendar app is useless if I can't set the duration of the snooze, e.g. 1 hour, 1 day, etc. You may as well just disable snooze altogether as this is counterintuitive to how EVERYONE uses the snooze feature. What was the thought process here? It's up there with making round tires octagonal. Please fix this as soon as possible so I can use calendar alerts instead of some clunky reminders app. As a busy professional (with ADHD now less) the calendars app used to be great tool to keep me on track, now I need to look elsewhere until this is fixed.

Thanks for the tip but this doesn't work, it's just another way to click "Repeat" (not sure what it actually says in English but this what the German "Wiederholen" translates to), it's pretty useless actually as it does the same as when clicking on the options button. Before, the options let you say "remind me again in 2 hours" or "Remind me again 15 minutes before".

But let's be honest about this workaround. It relies on you knowing in advance how much of a 'snooze' between alerts that you will need AND remembering not to just dismiss the final alert (thinking there's another one coming). The multi-time option snooze was excellent, because I often would only know how long I wanted to snooze for based on what I was doing when the alert popped up. A regular alert could pop up and sometimes snoozing for just a few minutes was ideal, whereas on other occasions, I'd want to snooze for a few hours.

I'm not knocking the idea of temporary workarounds, but let's not let Apple off the hook thinking we'll just work around their crappy decision to remove an important feature from Calendar.

Hi madshen, I suspect things like the 1 day option will be there, as they were before, because with the old snooze you only got offered options for snooze lengths that would happen 'before' the actual event happened. In the example you shared, the event is 'Today at 10:30 AM' so you cannot snooze it for 1 day, as that would take the snooze past the time of the event itself. Does that make sense?

To be honest the snooze options were already quite basic, but at least you could snooze it for an hour a day or a week. I was hoping it would be made more flexible and perhaps choosing when to have the reminder again (calendar and time). Instead, they have removed even the previous basic features!

Congratulations Apple for having created something even more annoying than the infamous Microsofot Paper Clip
