Calendar notification snooze in Big Sur?

We just installed Big Sur on our iMacs. Now when we get calendar notifications, we only have an option that says "snooze", with no option to select how long we want to snooze it for. This is really annoying and much less helpful than before, when we had multiple options (1 hour, 1 day, etc.). Are we just missing something here? Is there a way around this? (Note: we've tried clicking and holding "snooze", but no options come up when we do that.) Sure would love some help with this. Thanks.

This is simply unacceptable. That option is not just a minor change that's a huge thing. And why? Who in the right mind would remove this?

Exactly this! It's ridiculous. I wonder why they do things like that, it's so frustrating. I wish I hadn't updated from Catalina to Big Sur for this reason alone. There is nothing useful in Big Sur for me, just slightly worse design and then this huge problem that affects me several times a day! I often have a reminder one day before an event. Now, instead of being able to say "remind me again in 2 hours" or "1 hour before the event", I have to click on it the entire day every few minutes. How is that useful??

I ended up buying BusyCal and it is WONDERFUL. It's $50 (or $5 for your iOS device - you'll want both) and worth every penny. I then immediately removed Apple's Calendar and Reminders from my Dock and turned off all their notifications.

This was such a big deal for me (attention: Apple) that I came very, very close to dumping my Mac entirely and going to a Surface Pro with Windows. I've been a Mac user for many years, but nonsense like this (along with my MacBook Pro keyboard that still doesn't work properly) keeps me perilously close to calling it quits. I remember the good ole' days when Apple products were expensive, but actually worked. Now they're just..... well.... expensive.

It is a headache but there is a way ... not all intuitive, though. On the notification, hover the cursor/arrow above the Options button. The date will change to a >. Click on the >. Snooze options will pop up.

That said ... one of the things that has kept me as a Mac user for 30+ years is the intuitive interface. I know Apple can do better with this feature.

Doesn't take you to any more snooze 'options'. When you hover, yes the ">" appears, but all it does is open a drop down which shows you the calendar day or takes you directly to the iCal application. There are no options as before in last OS's, to actually *choose* various Snooze options, like, remind in in 5 minutes, an hour, a day, whatever. This is an extreme oversight on Apple's part. One of the most used functions I use daily. :-(

Thanks for the tip but this doesn't work, it's just another way to click "Repeat" (not sure what it actually says in English but this what the German "Wiederholen" translates to), it's pretty useless actually as it does the same as when clicking on the options button. Before, the options let you say "remind me again in 2 hours" or "Remind me again 15 minutes before".

Sorry, my bad -- the > appears when you hover over it. You have to click on it once it appears to get the options. Very annoying. I use notifications often, too, and when I made the big leap from Yosemite to Big Sur a few weeks ago it was one of the things I found most frustrating.

Just to make it more annoying, when I pulled over my old files, it also pulled over some outdated notifications that keep coming back (over and over and over ... ) even if I click Complete. I have no idea how to clear out the bad notifications while keeping the good -- the outdated ones aren't even on my Calendar or Reminders! Yosemite lets me end them but Big Sur just cannot believe I really mean it when I click Complete.

Wow, that looks promising! I definitely don't have that, tried multiple times. I now think this must be a new feature in the latest update. I am on Big Sur 11.1 and I am installing 11.2 now and will report back later whether it works after the update. Even if this is a bit more cumbersome than before, I'll take it over not having these options at all. Thanks a lot for the screenshot!

Yes. Do send Apple feedback. But I am sure it's not just a matter of flipping a switch to get this feature back. You won't see it in the next Big Sur, even if they decide to do it. A lot of "thought" went into this "improvement", and it will have to be undone. You won't see that until the next OS, whatever they're going to call it. A full OS development cycle. That's how long it took them to undo the last "upgrade" I complained about in the Mail program.

If we are really enough to complain, it could be added in a Big Sur update (fingers crossed 🤞🤞), like they did with some features in the past... But in the worst case, I hope the next OS will bring it back...

And besides, I can’t think they did it intentionnally... I see it more as a side effect related to the new notifications behaviour in Big Sur...

@Bigbwanabwana is right. This is most likely tangled up with Catalyst, with Calendar sharing implementation across platforms. Don't expect this to be fixed until the next major release where macOS, iPadOS, and perhaps iOS, have release dates that are lined-up. But, as others have posted, please use the Feedback page. Discussion pages do not get the same attention.

Calendar notifications should have the option of a user selectable snooze duration restored. Big Sur removed this useful feature.

Sometimes I want to deal with a notification on my terms. This interrupts my workflow and what I'm currently focusing on.

I've actually dismissed notifications (because sometimes they're annoying) and have forgotten to go back and do what I wanted to be reminded of. Like pay bills or give my dogs their heartworm pills.
