Latency with UAD plugins much higher than in Ableton

If I use a UAD plugin like LA-2A on an audio track while recording there is a 23.8ms. This is large enough to be noticeable when recording.

Weirdly, I've moved to Logic from Ableton, and I never noticed this issue before, so just did a test and in Ableton the latency for the same plugin in 3.8ms. Why is there such a huge difference?

This means that I can't use most UAD plugins for recording, which seems ridiculous when it's fine in other DAWs, and is part of the sound.

Yes I know I can record through the UAD console, but I usually mix UAD and native plugins so I can't do that, and as I say this was never an issue in Ableton.

Is there anything I can do about this?

(I've read all the usual articles/posts about buffer size and latency but none that I can see cover this particular issue.)

Yes, both are using AU plugins, and the sample rate is the same for both projects (48k). As far as I can tell everything else is the same, buffer size etc.

But I really never had any issue in Ableton which is why this is so puzzling.

I've just discovered LiveTrack which alleviates the issue to some extent, but I don't really want to have to use it as it uses a lot of CPU and I have to remember to switch it on/off..

Cheers,

Mike
