An older post discussed this problem and claimed that the problem did not occur with Chrome. That is not true now. It has been occurring for me with Chrome and Safari. I get it when I access cbs.com (for cbs all access) and when I access amazon prime videos. If I bring up preferences and click on audio, the problem is temporarily cured but with static noise. Anyone have any explanations or possible cures?
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
