Is anyone else unable to attach or upload a file after Safari update 14.0.1. I'm using Mohave 10.14.6

Same here. After updating Safari to 14.0.1 I was unable to upload any files. Called Apple support on 11/16/2020. They had me on hold for 45 minutes. When they finally connected me with a technician, I was on the line with him for another 40 minutes and resolved nothing. He suggested that I install Chrome or Firefox. Unbelievable, Apple installs a crappy update, they can’t fix it, and their solution is to install someone else’s software.

I'm able to upload images to my website using Firefox / Mohave 10.14.6 OS. Also, it still works fine on my other iMac with Safari 14.0 / Catalina 10.15.7 - but I cancelled the Catalina / Safari update on that Mac for now just to be on the safe side.... so can't tell if it's specifically a Mohave / Safari issue without first doing the update.

Now I'm wondering if I should just go straight to Big Sur on that one instead of taking a chance with the update. Anyone tried that yet?

Just had another working session with a senior Apple tech. Seems that after the update there is as "disconnect" between Safari and Finder (finder will no display any file information to select the attachment from). Suggestion was to "reload Mojave". Takes about an hour to do, but now everything is working again! Thanks Kelly at Apple Support!

Has been working now for several hours. I have a second Mac that suffered the same fate after the last Safari update. Will have to reinstall Mojave on it as well. Was instructed to make sure that you have a backup of your system, then to power down the computer. Then hold down the COMMAND and R key while pressing the power on button. You will eventually get to a page that asks you what you want to do. We chose "disk utilities" and then "first aid" for the Mac HD - to make sure there were no problems with the HD. When that checked out ok, we then went back to the "heat do you want to do" screen and chose "restore OS". It then showed that it would restore MOJAVE (and not some newer version). It took about an hour to do the restore. During the restore it will restart the computer, so if your computer is password protected, you will have to enter your password to allow the restore to do further work before it completes. Good luck. By the way, no guarantees that the steps above are absolutely correct (trying to remember) or that the process will work. Like you, I don't work for Apple - just trying to keep my computer useful and working.

I hear ya @Jeffkorz, but at the end of the day it took me 30minutes to reinstall Mojave with the link I posted above ... way faster than holding on the phone for an hour or more, and way faster for an update to get pushed out to all. I couldn’t afford to just wait around for a fix that will eventually come... just saying... if you need it resolved ASAP then reinstall MacOS. Good luck

I really don't want to start reinstalling the operating system - that is a slide hammer to crack a nut. Not a route I want to go. I have had to stick with Mojave for some 32 bit software I use all the time, which is unlikely to be updated any time soon.

I guess I will just have to use Firefox, but it does upset me.

Sigh...

Agreed - but using the procedure outline in this thread, a re-install of the OS really isn't either risky or complicated.

I didn't like the idea - and we all wish it weren't needed.

But its only drawback is time: allow an hour.

It also means that anything else that might have become corrupted or otherwise non-functioning over time will almost certainly be put right. It really does sound worse than it actually is. Good luck!
