Safari update 14.0.1 issue uploading files

I have this issue too, with Safari 14.0.1 on Mojave 10.14.6 - no attachments possible, as the drop-down box doesn't appear. I logged into gmail using Firefox, and that worked fine. Irritating, to say the least, though manageable, I guess.

I don't intend to be on Mojave much longer; I've held off upgrading (if that's the word) because I've had a few 32 bit applications. I've now - finally - got rid of those 32 bit apps. Hopefully Catalina works OK!! I'm going to wait until Big Sur looks a bit more stable...

Many thanks! After a 90+ min call with Apple support and a good deal of frustration, I managed to re-install Mojave and now my Safari works as it did before. I'll stay clear of the Safari update until Apple figures out how to fix the bug. Thank you again!

Thanks for the useful info. Adobe is retiring Flash at the end of the year by all accounts, so hopefully someone at Google will wake up and do what's necessary to Gmail. In the meantime Chrome is the answer. Convenient, as you say, for Google.

It does not affect only GMAIL or YAHOO. It affects any web page where you have to clic on a button to select a file to upload. Including many official sites.

Firefox works great.

What's happening at Apple?

Just wanted to add that dragging and dropping seems to work. I have tried it on a couple of sites and there was no problem with the upload using that method. However, obviously, not all sites work that way. I still need to test this more.

I've had the problem with the "attach" button also on my Safari browser with gmail. My laptop is fairly new - I've only been using since late October 2020, and initially everything worked well. Then the "attach" button stopped working. It only happens with Safari Mojave 14.10.6 that is on this computer. I saw this suggested work around to "drag and drop files" while a fix is figured out. Thank you for the suggestion. It is working so far. I don't have the confidence or skill to reload my operating system and all that goes with it. So this drag and drop is ok for now. As others have said, given the cost of these Apple products (and this problem only occurs on the gmail on my MacBookAir), these basic functions like "attach" should work quite well.

Did not work for me in 10.14.6.

I filed a bug report with Apple.

I cannot believe that people have been having this problem since November and Apple still has not fixed it.

Some people on a Google support thread said that dragging and dropping a file worked for them, but it does not appear to work if your file is less than 1MB.

Go to System Preferences / Software update

it will "Check for Updates"

do not Upgrade NOW... that will upgrade to Big Sur or Catalina instead...

click on the blue link below the "Another update is available.

That's weird @luluminx, when I ran in to the Safari issue this morning, I downloaded Chrome and was able to attache the document I was trying to email out on gmail.com ... so Chrome worked for me ...

I can’t either. I have to go through Google chrome to access my email in order to download some thing. WTF?

I have re-installed OSX Mojave, and file upload worked again. Then I installed the available security updates and Safari 14.0.1, now it's broken again. So the issue is Safari 14.0.1.

For this problem in gmail, i was able to drag/drop files from Finder and the files attached.

Chrome works for me but Safari is a total bust. Can NOT upload or attache any files.

False. Chrome works. Also, drag and drop still works. But not every program supports drag and drop. Mailchimp and Upwork are 2 examples.

Attachments work in Chrome. Didn't realize it was an Apple issue.
