My iPhone 12 Pro will not show up in iTunes. I have followed all the steps pertaining to this issue short of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I'm running iTunes 12.8.2.3 on a Mac Pro OS High Sierra 10.13.6.
iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14
For iOS 14 you need iTunes 12.8.2.3 or better running on OS X 10.11.6 or better. See How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support if required.
Assuming a suitable version of iTunes is in place then in Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources
Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

Having the same issues also. I recently called and asked but was just told to wait for an update or try a third party software. An update from Apple would be nice since I would like to restore my back up.
I was so frustrated with this yesterday....I download the newer MaxOS and restarted both phone and iMac. I tried everything for hours! If you have an iMac and this is the first time your connecting to sync, the iPhone shows up in FINDER under Locations. Click the iPhone there and you'll have to trust the device. Then open the phone and you have to trust the computer. Wallaaa...iPhone 12 now in Music (the old iTunes)!
The new iOS update that came out today helped the phone show in iTunes but now its giving an error saying "iTunes could not restore iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". Did all the trouble shooting for that error 4 times and it happens every time.
Still doesn't work for me. Updated phone. Reset privacy setting to factor defaults. Restarted phone and computer and still nothing. iTunes still reads my old iPhone and will sync to it but will not recognize my new 12 Pro.

I'm running the suitable iTunes and MacOS on Mac mini (mid2010)&
Followed the steps above - till launching the MobileDeviceUpdater... double clicked on that - no software update notifications, nothing... still can't see my new iPhone mini in iTunes.
Any further suggestions?
I have a mid 2010 Mac mini. Can’t receive further macOS updates. So either just have to wait for an update or buy a new Mac sometime down the line.
Thank you, I too have a Mid 2010 system (Mac Pro). I find it ridiculous that we are having this issue with no word from Apple.
I finally got it to work after much trial and error. It was such a headache in doing all that. After updating the phone it gave me the option to restore my backup. Have you got it to work yet?
Just got it to work earlier today. It is till a bit wonky so I'm not totally satisfied. Will have to keep a close eye on it for a while. Thank you for your concern and help.
I have the same problem - MacBook Pro on latest High Sierra OS 10.13.6 running iTunes 12.8.2.3
Tried all manner of suggestions and still can't get iTunes to see the connected iPhone12
Try reinstalling iTunes 12.8.2.3 with the device connected to USB and unlocked.
