SD Card not showing up in Finder Sidebar (other removable drives do) - Big Sur

Since I upgraded to Big Sur, SD Cards inserted into my 2015 MPB 15" do not show up in the Finder Sidebar. They do appear on the desktop and and in Finder windows under my Mac.

Other removable drives (e.g. USB drives) show up and disappear when ejected as normal.

I checked in Finder Preferences and removable drives are checked on under the Sidebar items.

If an SD Card is mounted, I can drag-and-drop its icon to the sidebar. However, once ejected, its entry remains on the Sidebar. Clicking on it obviously doesn't work since the SD Card is no longer inserted/mounted.

On Catalina SD Cards used to behave like any other removable drives. That is, they would automatically appear on the Finder Sidebar when mounted, and I could eject them from there as well. After ejecting them they would automatically disappear from the Sidebar.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I too have the problem. Have a 2016 Subaru map microSD card formatted MS-DOS FAT32 mounted on /Volumes/Untitled\ 1. Its not the kind of thing one might casually rename for fear of Apple files confusing the Subaru navigation system for which I am already lacking respect.

My issue with Big Sur is how this device appears on my desktop but not in a Finder window sidebar. After decades of Mac use my muscles are trained to look for devices in the sidebar to eject. That is really my only interest, to properly eject.

I posted relating to this issue a few weeks ago.

Just now, I popped in a couple of SD cards from something I just shot and miraculously they both show up in the sidebar!

This is the first time this has happened. I have not updated anything recently other than Pages, Numbers, and Keynote three days ago.

They didn't show up when I downloaded a couple of cards from an assignment yesterday, either.

Interesting...

FOR ALL THAT WANT THE ANSWER... This is BIG SUR and not an error. Don't even bother with said workarounds or other suggestions. This is 100% Apple messing with Finder again.

This is beyond ridiculous! Come on Apple. First, you handicap Finder's preview area, now this. Please fix it. The creatives in the world that use Finder for more than marking up images and adding pretty colors to files are upset with your constant tinkering. Maybe if we "tag" the SD card, give it a color code, write sweet nothings for a label, we will be able to find it again. Really???

This is what I suspected too. I have been using Macs professionally for over 20 years and never thought I would say this but I think Mac OS and other apps, like mail are going backwards now.

I naively called AppleCare support about this finder issue and they claimed to be concerned and looking into it. What’s the line again. “I can see why you would be frustrated with that and I would like to help you fix it. Of course, after wasting a hour of my time over two calls, the trail went cold.

Not good enough!

I actually have a SATA hard drive in a dock connected via USB 3, Shows in sidebar as it should in Catalina, when i boot into Big Sur (same Mac) it doesn't show.

I can't rename this Hard Drive like you guys unfortunately as it has certain music sample libraries on it that rely on the exact same path under both OS'

So if i change that the path will break and the Application won't find the library, so i'm kinda stuck here.
