Big Sur - External disc not mounting

Have you rebooted and tried again?

You can Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

you can try this on your Terminal.

Ex-Fat : sudo mkdir /Volumes/External/ && sudo mount -t exfat /dev/disk2s1 /Volumes/External/

Fat32: sudo mkdir /Volumes/External/ && sudo mount -t msdos '/dev/disk2s1' /Volumes/External/

I have the exact problem, this is so anoying that can not access my data from USB hdd.

I tried the disk utility to mount the drives, get Could not mount “name of drive.. ”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49153.)

I also experiencing some permission errors.

Lets hope so, spent hours try to fix it, tried everything. I usualy wait for couple of minor bugs fix updates before I do the major update, sadly this didn't and I am paying for it. If is not fixed soon, have to go back to Catalina.

Do you have any 3rd party drivers, such as Paragon NTFS installed?

That was my problem, despite downloading the latest version for sur, had to uninstall it and install "tuxera", so far so good, can see all my usb/ext hdds, read and write

See if these drivers are compatible with Big Sur. This may be a software compatibility issue.

Because Big Sur is a new system, many Developers have not updated their firmwares to work with the new system.

Man this is a big issue. I lost clientss footage. It took me 7 hours to even restore the drive, mine stopped showing up in High Sierra and in Windows. Even after the 7 hours I lost the clients' footage...

I have the same problem? Can you see it in your system information panel ?

So the drive seems to be hanging....

I was having a similar problem when I first plugged my new external disc drive into my macbook pro, which was recently updated to Big Sur. I finally decided to try attaching the drive through my Andobil usb-c hub. Though this should be unnecessary since the external drive is already type c, it worked beautifully. Hope that works for someone else as well.

Although, now my external hard is read-only, but I guess there is a solution for that too.

This is a major issue. Apple must fix this. So far the only thing I have found to work is unplugging the external disks then plugging them in again. That is not acceptable. Apple get your act together.
