that’s not true. mine cracked without being dropped

If you feel that is the case, make an appointment to have your phone examined by Apple.

They are trained to be able to tell the difference between a stress crack or manufacturing defect and damage due to impact, and stress cracks or defects do occasionally occur as they do with any other product that uses glass.

Glass science is an amazing issue…Corning is the leader.Whether it is Gorilla glass,Willow glass or Vitrelle it is here to stay for iPhones.I chose the iPhone for is beautiful simplicity.I worked in the packaging field for many years b4 a devastating spinal cord injury brought that to an end.Corning,IBM,3M and DuPont we’re among my customers. Dow chemical making many of the packaging materials.I use Corelli dishes and the smaller iPhones because my hands are affected by my injuries.Corelle works great for me because I drop A LOT of things but when one plate does break…it is into a million pieces…just the nature of the beast. The development of new glass products is moving forward at an incredible pace so it will get better but likely not change the fact glass is used in the iPhone. I do think however because of the number of issues and incidents of breakage it should be made more economical to repair.Buy the BEST case, screen protector and camera lens protector that you can.Apple is not the only company using glass in their phone designs…we demanded freedom from the cord an they answered our demand with the glass back. That is how it is and probably will be.Make a suggestion to Apple then continue to buy their products or not.You still may get a lot of glass in any phone.I think Apple is the leader in this field as well so I will continue on with them.

Perhaps a different case this time would be a benefit…not necessarily the biggest or most expensive either. For me I want a case that works well AND most importantly looks cute too!!! I do agree it is unfortunate for you and would be for me as well because my phone due to my physical condition is my lifeline to help and to being linked to my family and to you great people.Unfortunately many other companies are using glass because we the consumer demand so much.Apple did not come up with this for no reason. We demanded it …they make it…we spend our money on it.I will tell you I drop my iPhone 12 mini at least one per day on hardwood floors half the time…no problem yet but it could happen at anytime.I have a luxury car and it is fairly new but I just had to have same censor replaced twice…bad design maybe but more than likely not…just my luck at the time.I still love that car and live it.Contact Apple and make a suggestion as I find they are pretty receptive as they do want me to buy their product.I wish you the best with your current phone.

Hello wicada!!!Contact Apple directly about a repair.I am sorry you are having this problem. Many other phones use glass as well to provide us with cordless charging…and of course the beautiful look and feel so it is not just Apple’s phone.Any phone you get now in most cases will have glass and this will most likely continue.Again I am so sorry and understand you frustration!!!Good luck and hang in there my friend!!!!

I had an iPhione X for years, been dropped, chucked about and generally abused, although pretty scratched it's not cracked or broken.

Now, my daughters brand new iPhone 12, beautifully looked after but droppped from 30 inches onto a wood floor, in Apples protective case and the rear completely shattered all over.

Apple is losing customers to Android phones which use more durable materials and are generally higher spec and much better value.

I would reread my post. I agree with you. Apple has made it more difficult to repair their products throughout the years. Regardless of why.

Apple set the precedent for design and build quality with the launch of the first iPhone. The iPhone has also been around long enough for most iPhone consumers to become accustomed to what is quality and what is not. Now that we as customers understand what to expect for quality and durability, we also understand when quality and durability isn’t up to the standard Apple set for the industry. When you have this many people experiencing something so unexplained and bizarre you have to start pointing fingers away from the Apple customers themselves.

Claims about glass strength are generally about the screen rather than the body as a whole, but in the end it’s still glass.

Take the rear view mirror of a car; most have never cracked one. You could rip it off the windshield and put it into your back pocket without consequence, but few would sit with it back there and expect there not to be damage.

If you feel a different phone would better suit your needs, feel free to pursue that, that’s what a consumer economy is all about.

Per the Apple Event Oct 13, 2020 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR0g-1hnQPA). Start around timestamp 23 min. for presentation on Ceramic Shield..

“Ceramic Shield is tougher than any smartphone glass, and

along with our new design it makes iPhone more durable than ever. We measured 4x better drop performance."

The statement speaks to the durability claim of the whole phone, not just to the front glass. Again, I didn't drop my phone, just sat on it. I know, who would dare keep a mobile phone in their back pocket?

I have purchased 2 iPhone 12 Pro Max since its launch. The one I gave to my wife has always been in a case. When she took it out today to clean the case we found out that the back glass had shattered deeply from the bottom and lightly towards the camera area without any fall. What's happening to the all new iPhone? I noticed that nothing happened to any other part of the phone other than the back glass. Think it self-destructed.

Mine. Broke without an accident. I kept it in its case and had a protector on front and back. I thought it would get fixed but they are still replacing them. I paid the deductible under the AppleCare plan but if there is a bigger problem I. Want That money back. After reading they were repairing tghedm, I returned mine. If I new it was only a replacement, I would have had them sahib me one out right away

I think it’s awful that the back cover breaks so easily. I had my iPhone 12 Pro phone 2 days and it slipped off my lap and fell maybe 18 inches . And the back cracked . So not only did I pay 800.00 for the phone. But $200.00 for the extended warranty and $100.00 to get it repaired. Heaven forbid you don’t repair it because if any water get in the crack and into the phone it will be fried!!! 2 days!!!! 2 lousy days for a $1,100.00 so called phone. Apple stand behind your lousy product. Let us return the cheap phone without charges. They case is a price of crap

On top of paying to fix it, it’s just going to break again, making no point of even getting it fixed. We have 2 iPhone 12 max pros and both the backs are broken. I didn’t even know mine was broken until I took the case off to put a new one on. I can only imagine how many other people have broken back glass on their phone and don’t even know about it because of a case.
